Winding Roads

Stacey L
       King

MA, LPCC, NCC

Hi! My name is Stacey. A little bit about myself: I'm a Colorado native who grew up in the Littleton/Columbine area. Choosing a counselor is difficult, something I learned from personal experience as I sought a counselor for myself following my own hardships as a child, teenager, and young adult. These experiences led me to seek help, do the work I needed to heal and grow, and led me to a career in counseling. As I continue to learn and heal in my own life, I am keenly aware of how difficult it is to take the first steps or to continue the journey of processing the many adversities we experience in life. My hope is to help you along your own path, discovering what steps can be taken that best serve you and help you to move through your own healing and growth. Life is a long road to wander, may we find others to journey alongside us.

Areas of Focus

Counseling, Psychotherapy, Couples, Grief, Family Dynamics, Adolescent Therapy, Premarital Counseling

I love my work as a counselor. After working for 10 years in various careers outside of the counseling world I can easily say that counseling is the best career for me. It is an honor to learn how to interact with each person, hear their stories, and walk through experiences together. I integrate faith, embodied experiences, and formal training in sessions to allow clients to examine their own lives and use their own intellect and intuition to process and or grow.

Depression and anxiety can rob us of the present and future. Grief can overwhelm like a flood. Families can be incredibly hard to be around. Quality friends difficult to find. Trauma and abuse can rob the heart and soul of joy. This is not where it ends. There can be transformation. Sometimes we need support, help to see different perspectives, or someone to sit in the proverbial mud with us. Sometimes we need someone who can show us a new direction to move in, a new path that we can follow. Growth can come from triumphs and tragedies.

I received my education from Denver Seminary and hold a master's of arts, mental clinical health counseling degree. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) and am Prepare/Enrich certified for premarital counseling. I have received training in emotionally focused therapy (EFT) for couples, individuals, and families, and am being trained in EMDR.

Services

Experience

Counseling

I have worked with children, adolescents, couples, individuals, and families throughout my time as a counselor. I have training in emotionally focused therapy (EFT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) as well as neurofeedback and utilize these modalities to help the therapeutic process.

Family Systems and Dynamics

Working with clients ages 5 to 75 has allowed me to develop a rounded approach to family systems and family dynamics. My own experiences with a complicated family of origin has spurred a passion for understanding how the influence of family history can show up during the present.

Trauma Related to Mass Shootings

It is a sad and unfortunate area of experience necessary to serve adolescent clients today. I have been secondarily involved with 4 shootings in the Colorado area during my lifetime. With loved ones present at the Columbine shooting, Aurora shooting, Arapahoe High shooting, and STEM shooting I grasp aspects of the trauma associated with these types of events in a unique way.
